Emily Haraldson Interim Executive Director
Emily has been a proud member of FACCC since March 2013 and now joins the organization as Interim Executive Director in 2024. She is an active member who joined the Communications Committee in 2014 and then chaired it from 2016-2019. As an advocate for community college faculty, Emily has experience working with and lobbying legislators as well as with other educational stakeholders statewide.
Before accepting the position of Interim Executive Director, Emily served the Glendale College Guild, AFT-2276 as President from 2020-2023. In that leadership position she successfully tackled the unexpected challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, along with the full range of issues normally faced by college faculty. She found common ground with administration to better the health, welfare, and working conditions of her faculty.
Emily is also an Associate Professor and the Chair of the Art History Department at Glendale Community College. Her research interests include 20th-century European and American Modernism, Contemporary Art, Feminist Art, and Political Visual Culture. As advocacy takes many forms, she uses her classroom to shed light on social and political issues found in historical and contemporary art alike.
Emily grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and has made Southern California her home since 1999. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Art History from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, earned an M.A. with Distinction in Art History from California State University, Northridge, and holds a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies from California State University, Long Beach.
