Rethinking California's Community College Funding:
Analyzing the Shortcomings of the Student Centered Funding Formula

This webinar will examine the complex challenges that the Student Centered Funding Formula (SCFF) has created for California's community colleges. We'll discuss how the SCFF ties college budgets to metrics like enrollment and completion rates, leading to chronic underfunding and penalizing districts who “underperform” in  student enrollment, degree achievement, and financial aid recipients. The SCFF fails to fully account for the breadth of student needs, or reflect the diversity in the student body that our 116 community colleges serve. By way of solutions, this webinar will also offer policy recommendations to reform the funding formula and create a more equitable and stable system focused on serving students.
